What is the Extrait RNE?
The Extrait RNE (Extrait des inscriptions au Registre National des Entreprises, the extract of registrations from the National Business Register) is an official document issued by the Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle (INPI) in France. It provides a comprehensive snapshot of all information recorded for a given entity in the Registre National des Entreprises (RNE), which is France's unified national business register.
The RNE was established on 1 January 2023 to centralise registration data for all businesses operating in France, whether commercial companies, craftsmen, liberal professions, or agricultural enterprises, and regardless of their legal form. Because of that breadth, the Extrait RNE serves as a broad-spectrum register extract for KYB (Know Your Business) and compliance processes, and it consolidates company identity, management, establishment details, activity descriptions, and beneficial ownership information into a single document.
Each extract also states the company name and the date up to which the information is current (à la date du), so it provides a clear point-in-time reference.
What does it contain?

1. Document header
The extract opens with the logos of the République Française and the INPI. The title reads "REGISTRE NATIONAL DES ENTREPRISES, Extrait des inscriptions", followed by a statement identifying the company concerned and the reference date. A République Française watermark also appears throughout the document.
2. Company summary (Résumé de l'entreprise)
This opening section provides a high-level overview of the entity:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
Date d'immatriculation | Date of registration |
Forme juridique | Legal form (e.g. SAS, SARL, Société européenne) |
Nature de l'activité principale | Nature of principal activity (e.g. Commerciale) |
Extension d'une entreprise étrangère | Whether the entity is an extension of a foreign company |
Entreprise agricole | Whether it is an agricultural business |
Date de dépôt | Filing date, when applicable |
N° identification | SIREN identification number |
Code APE | INSEE activity classification code |
The inclusion of the Code APE is notable, because this statistical classification code is not present on the Extrait Kbis.
3. Company identity (Identité de l'entreprise)
This section details the core legal identity of the entity:
- Dénomination: the official company name
- Forme juridique: the legal form, repeated for clarity

- Origine fusion / scission: whether the company originated from a merger or demerger
4. Registered address (Adresse de l'entreprise)
This section provides the full registered office address. And where the company uses a domiciliation service, the extract also specifies:
- Recours à une société de domiciliation: whether a domiciliation company is used (Oui/Non)
- SIREN de la société de domiciliation: the domiciliation company's SIREN number
- Dénomination de la société de domiciliation: the domiciliation company's name
A Complément de localisation field may appear for additional address details, such as a building name or floor.
5. Management and officers (Composition)
The section opens with the total number of registered powers (Nombre de pouvoirs définis), and each officer is then listed individually under a dedicated heading indicating the role and the person's name.
For each individual (Personne Physique), the extract provides:

- Autre rôle / Second rôle: whether the person holds additional functions
- Nom de Naissance: birth surname
- Nom d'usage: married or customary name, if applicable
- Prénom: given name(s)
- Genre: gender, which appears on some records (e.g. Féminin, Masculin)
- Date de naissance: month and year of birth (the day is not disclosed)
- Nationalité: nationality
- Adresse: personal address of the officer
For legal entities acting as officers (Personne Morale), such as statutory auditors, the extract instead provides the SIREN number, company name (Dénomination), legal form (Forme juridique), and registered address.
The roles observed across the sample documents include Président de SAS, Directeur Général, Gérant, Administrateur, Président du conseil d'administration et directeur général, Commissaire aux comptes titulaire, and Administrateur représentant les salariés actionnaires.
6. Establishments (Etablissements)
The extract lists all current and historical establishments of the company. Each establishment is identified by a sequential NIC code (e.g. 00023, 00015) and includes:
- SIRET de l'établissement: the 14-digit SIRET number (SIREN + NIC)
- Numéro interne de classement (NIC): the establishment's internal classification number
- Rôle de l'établissement pour l'entreprise: its function (e.g. Siège et établissement principal, Établissement secondaire)
- Nom commercial / Nom d'exploitation: the trade name, if any
- Enseigne: the trading sign displayed at the premises, if any
- Adresse de l'établissement: the establishment's full address
- Complément de localisation: additional location details
- Présence de salarié: whether employees are present
- Emploie son (ou ses) premier(s) salarié(s): whether the establishment employs its first employee(s)
Closed establishments are clearly marked with the notice "Cet établissement a été fermé le [date]", and their role is labelled accordingly (e.g. Siège et établissement principal fermé, Établissement secondaire fermé).
7. Activities (Activités)
Each establishment includes a detailed activity section listing one or more registered activities. For each activity, the extract records:
- Activité principale de l'établissement / de l'entreprise: whether this is the main activity
- Date de début de l'activité: the start date of the activity
- Exercice de l'activité: whether the activity is permanent or seasonal
- Activité non sédentaire: whether the activity is itinerant
- Nature d'activité: general classification (e.g. Commerciale)
- Description détaillée: a free-text description of the activity
- Catégorisation niveau 1 / 2 / 3 (/ 4): a multi-level activity categorisation hierarchy (e.g. Industrie > Edition, informatique et télécommunication > Édition de logiciels)
- Type d'origine: origin of the activity (e.g. Création, Achat)
8. Beneficial owners (Bénéficiaires effectifs)
When applicable, the extract includes a dedicated section listing the company's declared beneficial owners, and this is a distinctive feature not found on the Extrait Kbis. For each beneficial owner, the following information is disclosed:
- Nom de Naissance / Prénom: birth surname and given name
- Date de naissance: month and year of birth
- Adresse: country of residence
Under the sub-heading Moyen d'exercice du pouvoir, the extract then details the nature of control:
- Moyen d'exercice du pouvoir: the basis for beneficial ownership status (e.g. "Détention de plus de 25% du capital ou du droit de vote")
- Détention du capital: percentage of capital held
- Détention directe capital / en pleine propriété: direct capital ownership percentage
- Détention indirecte du capital: whether indirect capital ownership exists
- Détention des droits de vote: percentage of voting rights held
- Détention vote directe / en pleine propriété: direct voting rights percentage
- Détention vote indirect: whether indirect voting rights exist
9. Observations
The final section records notable events and administrative remarks:
- Diffusion INSEE: whether the entity's data may be publicly disseminated by INSEE
- Observation n° du [date]: dated observations recording significant events such as name changes, legal form transformations, registered office transfers, or deregistrations (e.g. "Radiation d'office par suite du transfert dans le ressort du greffe du Tribunal des Activités Economiques de Paris")
Historical name changes and corporate transformations are recorded in detail here, so the section provides a valuable audit trail.
What is not included?
- Financial data: annual accounts and financial statements are not part of the extract, because they are separate filings
- Full date of birth: only the month and year of birth are disclosed for officers and beneficial owners; the day is omitted
- Filing history: while observations capture key events, a full chronological history of all filings is not provided
- Detailed shareholder register: the extract includes beneficial ownership data, but it does not provide a complete list of all shareholders or their exact share allocations below the UBO threshold
